A life insurance policy is a long term contract between the life insurance company and the policyholder. The payment of premium towards a regular premium policy is spread over the premium paying term of the policy. A policyholder has to pay the premium on or before the due date.

When does a policy lapse or become paid up?
If policy holder fails to pay the premium even after the expiry of grace period the policy status will be changed to lapse or Paid- Up depending on the year in which the policyholder fails to pay the premium.

How can a lapsed or paid up or discontinued policy be revived/ reinstated?
The lapsed, Paid- Up or Discontinued policy can be revived as per conditions governing the product. You need to provide the insurer with evidence or insurability and pay all the outstanding premiums and related charges (if any).

If policy is in lapsed status for less than 6 months:
- Outstanding Premium(s)
- Revival Charges (If any)
If policy is in lapsed status for more than 6 months:
- Outstanding Premium(s)
- Revival Charges & interest charges ( interest charges are applicable for conventional plans)
- Personal Statement of Health (PHS) (only for underwriting plans) (PHS not required for Unit Linked Paid up cases)
- Revival Form & quote
If policy is in lapsed status for more than 1 year:
- Outstanding Premium(s)
- Revival Charges & interest charges ( interest charges are applicable for conventional plans)
- Revival Form & quote
- Address Proof (self-attested)
- ID Proof (self-attested )
- Income Proof (self- attested if the annual premium amount is more than 1 lakh)

Revival/Reinstatement fees of 250/- is equal even for low premium case and high premium cases
Revival & Reinstatement of any policy incur a fixed cost hence to compensate for that expense, INR 250 charge is there.

Most of premium notices/reminder notices/bonus letters are not getting to clients
All the Premium notices & reminders are getting dispatched through a normal post without fail but because of incorrect/wrong address or due to some other reasons few of our customers are not getting the same hence would suggest to guide the customer to update their latest contact details as and when it change and simultaneously ask them to go for My Account to avoid such issue in future.
